Answers to Frequently Asked Questions about ILLiad

What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is an Interlibrary loan (ILL) request management system. It allows you to submit and renew ILL requests, and to track those requests as they are processed through the system. ILLiad will electronically notify you when your requests arrive, providing links to PDFs of the book chapters and articles you request.

Who can use Marist's ILLiad?

ILLiad is open to all current Marist faculty, staff and enrolled students.

What can I request using ILLiad?

You can request materials not available in the Marist College Library.

Check the Library Catalog and our Journal Titles to be sure that Marist does not have the item before requesting it.

ILLiad requests may include journal articles, books, and book chapters.

How long does it take for requests to arrive ?

Books generally average 2 weeks; articles average 1 week.

How do I create an ILLiad account?

Select InterLibrary Loan from the Library Home Page.  This will take you to ILLiad.

Select First Time Users, and fill out the registration form.

Select a username and password of your choice, but do not use your Marist Computing User ID.  You will use the same username and password each time you log in to ILLiad. If you forget your password in the future, ILLiad will allow you to re-set it via emailed instructions.

In the Email  field, use your official Marist email address.

How do I know when my ILL request has arrived?

ILLiad emails you when your item arrives.

Non-electronic items are held for pick-up at the Library Reference Desk.

When possible, articles and book chapters are delivered in PDF format : the ILL  notification email will explain how to login to your ILLiad account and download or print your PDF file.

How long are PDF files available on the server?

PDF files delivered to you electronically on ILLiad will remain on the server for 60 days.

You will receive an ILLiad email when your request is available.

Login to ILLiad and choose Electronically Received Articles on the left side menu.

Click on the correct Transaction Number to see the pages.

You may need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to read and print these files.

Can I renew ILL items on ILLiad?

Yes, login to ILLiad, and scroll down to click on View/Renew Checked Out Items.

Most renewals are approved, but sometimes the loaning library requests the book be returned immediately.  If denied, please return the book quickly.

You can request the title again from a different library.

Once an item is Overdue, only the ILL Office can request a renewal.

What security precautions should I take using ILLiad?

Always exit from a Web browser before leaving a public workstation.  This prevents others from using the Back button to get to the pages you were using.

Use the ILLiad Exit button when finished to prevent others from viewing your record.

Why am I not receiving ILLiad email?

Use your Marist email account to receive ILL email notices.

Because non-Marist email accounts have been known to block ILLiad-generated notices, we send all notifications to Marist email accounts only.

You can update your email address yourself in your ILLiad account.

Who do I contact if I have questions about ILL?

Marist Library Interlibrary Loan Office is not staffed on a regular schedule.

Please call our ILL phone and leave a message: 575-3000, ext. 2087
